Cons for Early 2007
I've added Farpoint (Hunt Valley, MD; Feb. 16-18th ) to the roster of conventions for the first part of 2007. Other shows I'm considering for the first quarter are VisionCon (Springfield, Mo; Feb. 16-18th) and Show Me Con (St. Louis, MO; Apr. 20-22). If you have a convention art show near you that you'd like me to mail my art to, please do contact me at aazaris_world@sbcglobal.net and let me know! I'm looking to book for next year and possibly 2-3 more for the end of this year. Almost Done!
I'm in the final stretch of finishing school!
I have just a couple more days of externship and I'm already looking around for jobs so I can start working full time in October, hopefully. This will mean more money to put into the art business, which will mean that I can offer more prints, perhaps larger sizes and send to more shows. I'm having to limit the shows I send to right now according to panel cost. Anything over $15 a panel is too rich for my blood right now and I'm limiting my panel purchase to 1 per show for the most part since I just don't have enough stock to cover more than that at the moment. So, with any luck at all, 2007 will be a good year for me in the convention circuit because I should be able to do more and MAYBE even be able to actually attend a show or two by the end of the year since I hope to have a job where I can actually rack up some vacation time.
Licensing?
Well, I'm seeing some shake-ups in the world of licensing for online taggers and tubers. It appears some artists (Deacon Black, Dean Yeagle and Joel Adams to name a few) have fled the GILD program and are going with Anthony Guerra's new Creative Image Licensing & Management. I can't say I'm terribly surprised. It's looking as though having such a company run by an artist works quite a bit better, especially when you consider Anthony has been quite friendly with both other artists and the graphics enthusiasts for some time and knows a lot about what the taggers and the artists both want in a licensing deal. I'm impressed with the fact that Anthony allows participating artists to amend the general usage rules to suit what they will and will not allow to be done to their own art. This was something they couldn't control with GILD. That alone is enough to make me consider working with CILM to allow those taggers who have been asking for it to use my work. So, I've asked for more information and will be looking it over.
There's also another company starting up called Artistic Minds, Inc. which also appears to be preparing to release the work of several artists such as Camilla Drakenborg, Lacy Clagg and Brenda Hoddinott who have seemed to be rather popular among taggers in the past. I'm not sure I'll be dealing with this one, though. They don't seem to mention anything about artist control of their packages on their site despite assurances that it's allowed in their correspondence to me. Anthony's company seems much more up front about and shows actual evidence of the artist's control of their work.
Well, that's it for now. I hope you're enjoying the beginnings of Fall and I hope it's as prosperous a season for you as it's been for me thus far.
